We Say Our Goodbyes to 2012

In the blink of an eye 2012 has flown by and 2013 is almost upon us!

We’ve had another successful year of fishing, whale watching and whole boat charters.  Weddings, corporate work functions, hen dos, bucks dos, birthday parties, Australia Day cruises – you name it, we’ve done it!

We’ve been delighted to see repeat customers and come to call some of them friends as well as meet lots of new faces and travellers from all over the globe. In fact this year has seen two new members of staff from two very different parts of the world, Emma from England and Stacy from America. We’ve taught each other heaps of new lingo!

Looking back at 2012 we’re delighted to say the entire year has been a success however there have been a few stand out moments for us…

Being a part of Ben and Charlie’s big day has stuck in Tash’s mind as she got to be a part of a special moment when they celebrated their Wedding Reception aboard Aussie Warrior.

Stacy and I saw humpback whales for the first time ever and nothing can prepare you for the moment when a calf approaches the boat only to roll on its back and appear to look at you all.

Our own Christmas do was topped off with a visit from a dolphin in the Marina, a moment which just highlights how lucky we are to live in Perth!

Some of the customer’s feedbacks have really touched Mark and Tash and shown Mills what an avid support base it has which motivates everyone here to continue to provide the very best service we can.

Overall 2012 has been a superb year for us all here and we can’t wait to share 2013 with you all! Thank you once again for all of your support and we wish you a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

Best Fishing Outing 2012 Competition

We offered our customers the chance to win a free fishing trip in 2013 by telling us in 50-100 words their best trip with us and why.

We've had some awesome responses and it was great to hear how much people enjoyed their trips with us!

It was certainly a tough one to choose however there could only be one winner and here it is....

"Mills

By far the best fishing trip was a four day Abrolhos Charter. This was my second trip out and booked for the third.

So much fishing and eating, sunshine and blue water sets the scene for an unforgettabl four day experience combined with the sunrises and sunsets and the aroma of the fresh fish being cooked.

Mills Charter crew are real experts and can tackle almost anything onboard.

Ray W"

Congratulations to Ray Wood, you have won yourself the free fishing trip for 2013!

And a huge thank you to everyone else to sent in their best trips with Mills. I have enclosed these below with some of the fabulous pictures that were sent in also.

Hopefully we can continue to put a smile on our customer's faces throughout 2013!

"Our staff Christmas party, because without Mills Charters we wouldn't have had the best day of the year. It is because of the staff and crew at Mills that makes thie day everyone looks forward to and enjoys."

"The best fishing trip I had this year was in winter.
I caught 1 fish that was respectable enough to take home and the rest were small so I returned them to the ocean.
None of this mattered. There were no phones, no hassles and for that day my only concern was watching the tip of my rod and the swell as it passed under the boat.
The object of the day was achieved, when I arrived home, the noise of everyday life in my head was silenced and I was again tranquil.''

''Moving over to Perth from NSW all I wanted to do was catch a western australia dhu fish, many many unsuccessful days out on friends and colleagues boats but no results. When the inlaws arrived in Perth from nsw I thought I would book a day for me and the father in law.The weather outlook looked good we were pumped both being keen fisho's, around lunch time the old boy hooked up and I was spewing that he was looking like getting a dhuie before me then bang I was on after a few tense minutes there were two lovely dhu's laying boat side waiting for the net!! What a great day thanks mills charters.''

''My favourite trip this year was in May. My wife surprised me with it as a birthday present, my two sons and a mate came along. It was the first time my two sons caught a pink snapper ever. My younger son started getting seasick as soon as we left Hillarys and was sick for most of the day. After lunch he was finally well enough to put a line in, landed the biggest fish on the boat for the day. Just reward for being seasick all day and made me so happy they both caught there first Pinkies ever on my birthday. Thank you Mills Charters.''

''G'Day Mills Charters,
My favourite trip with Mills Charters was in January - I went out alone for my birthday and was favoured with a beautiful clear day, a 1 metre swell, and 2 keepers on the end of my line. I met a wonderful family from the east coast, and shared stories with a lad from Victoria. To cap it off, the cod won me catch of the day, you beauty!

Thanks,
Damien''

''My first trip with mills charters was in June 2012, before this I used a few other companies,I keep booking fishing trips with mills charters because their staff work so hard to help you catch big fish and are always polite and very safety driven at all times, yesterday ( 21st of December) was my 4th time this years I went fishing with mills, my most favourite time was in June 2012 when I caught a 15kg king fish, that memory will stay with me forever, thank you mills charters and I will see you again in January.
Regards
Andy Webb''

We bagged OUT!

Our fishing season has well and truly kicked off with a bang and yesterday was no exception!

Our skipper Anthony had to bring our customers back to shore early after he bagged out a little after lunch time with plenty of pinkies, dhufish and grey banded cod. Just see for yourself...

Clean Marine

Clean Marine is an education and awareness campaign targeting the recreational fishing and boating community in Western Australia.

The campaign aims to reduce litter and waste in and around marine and river environments by:
  • Increasing awareness of the effects of litter on the environment - especially the harm caused to marine animals, oceans and rivers.
  • Encouraging responsible litter disposal behaviour when people are fishing, boating or at the beach.

Here at Mills we understand how important it is to keep our oceans clean and we encourage our staff and those around us to do their part by picking up litter and support this great campaign. Just 1 hour every month could make a huge difference to our marine life.

Marine litter kills and injures our ocean's animals, many become entangled in fishing lines or nets and plastic bags that that don't biodegrade, instead break down into small particles, and are ingested by the animals which can lead to sickness or death.

Humans are also at risk and often boats are damaged by the floating debris - accidents that can be easily avoided.

We spent just 45 minutes collected two whole bags of rubbish today which included 2 flip flops, glass and plastic bottles, cans, plastic bags and sweets, all of which had the potential to damage our marine life.

Do your bit today and put litter in it's rightful place.

Deep Sea Fishing Ban OVER!

The deep sea fishing ban runs yearly from 15th October to 15th December and has been put into place to try and repopulate the fish that we target such as Pink Snapper, Mulloway and Baldchin Groper.

Being that today is 16th December, it meant one important thing....TODAY WE STARTED FISHING AGAIN!

At 6.00am this morning we were checking in customers for both boats and Aussie Warrior and Blue Strike took to the water for fishing.

What a shock to the system it was, up at 5.00am to get all of the breakfast and lunch rolls on to the boat and ready for our keen fishermen (and women!) but it was all in a days work for us here at Mills and something we pride ourselves in.

And what a successful first day back it was! Take a look at these snaps and see for yourself...

Job Satisfaction

Whatever line of work you're in, everyone wants to feel like they are delivering the best service they possibly can to their customers.

We send out customer feedback forms after each charter and encourage people to visit Trip Advisor and rate their experience. We are continually trying to improve on the standard of customer service we deliver and would not be able to do this were it not for the valued feedback we are given by our customers.

It is equally important that new customers can see for themselves the success that we have had with previous charters, especially when it comes to something as important as picking a venue for your wedding reception!

We thank you for your ongoing support and valued contributions, helping us to keep moving forward and becoming an even better business.

Lets Celebrate!

We have been so busy planning our customer’s Christmas parties that before we knew it ours had snuck up on us!

Mark and Tash treated us to 9 holes at golf yesterday where we divided into teams of 4 and spent 3 hours making our way around the course in 37 degrees of sunshine. Having never played golf previously myself, I was happy at being able to simply hit the ball, let alone get a hole in one! Obviously the men got their competitive streak on but there was lots of encouragement to the less skilled golfers of the group and we all got to have a go.
We then headed back to Hillarys at 5pm where we met with other colleagues and suppliers for dinner and drinks aboard Aussie Warrior.
We had finger food circulate the deck all evening with tasty choices such as mini meat pies, duck  pancakes, rolls, mini fish bites, prawns with parma ham and much more! The champers and beer was flowing and mini magnums made their debut to satisfy those of us with a sweet tooth (I admit I ate 3!)
As the sun went down, as if by magic we were treated to a visit by a friendly dolphin that swam into the harbour. It really was the perfect way to start our Christmas celebrations and after all of the hard work everyone has put in so far this year, it was truly deserved.
Thanks for a great do Mark and Tash and here’s to a successful 2013 at Mills Charters!
